How to Prepare Cake Pans

(upbeat music)
[Narrator] Preparing cake pans.
We'll show you how to prepare your cake pans.
This helps prevent sticking
so the finished cake slides easily out of the pan.
To do this, we'll use a pastry brush
to grease the cake pans with softened butter or shortening.
A nine-inch pan will need about one tablespoon of butter.
Smear the butter on with your brush
and be sure to grease well into the corners, too.
Next, let's sprinkle a heaping teaspoon
of flour into the pan.
Shake the pan around to coat the inside with flour.
The flour should stick to the butter.
(metal clanging)
Make sure it coats your pan lightly, but completely.
Tap the pan gently and if there's any excess flour
turn the pan over and dump it out.
Now your cake pan is ready to fill and bake.
