How to Make a Shanghai Rose Drink

Hi, I'm Tomas Delos Reyes
and today I'm at the Museum of Sex in New York City
and I'm going to show you how
to create one of their flirty drinks, the Shanghai Rose
using ingredients known to inspire romance.
This elixir's great because it's festive and delicious.
Today, I'm making it without alcohol,
but if you really want to spice it up,
add your favorite spirit and serve it on the rocks.
The Shanghai Rose features a rose elixir,
a yuzu elixir, simple syrup, soda water
and a crystallized rosemary rim.
Roses are one of the most popular symbols
of romance around, and rosemary represents love and union.
So, the first step, I'm going to take my glass,
dip it in a little bit of lime juice
and rim it in my crystallized rosemary.
If you don't have crystallized rosemary at home,
just go ahead and use ground dried rosemary
and mix it with superfine sugar.
And another alternative would be to rim your glass
with superfine sugar and garnish it
with a fresh rosemary sprig.
So, after you've rimmed your glass,
you're going to take one ounce of our rose elixir.
The rose elixir is made with rose syrup and distilled water.
Next, we're going to take our yuzu elixir.
Yuzu is Japanese citrus.
You can buy bottled yuzu juice
in most Asian supermarkets.
So, next, we're going to add our simple syrup.
Now, simple syrup is simply sugar and water.
And for the final steps, we're going to add ice,
top it off with soda water
and garnish it with a fresh rosemary sprig.
And there you have it, the Shanghai Rose.
