The Moosewood Collective is a group of individuals who share responsibilities and participate in the various jobs necessary to run what has grown from a small natural foods restaurant to a larger and more diversified company. Some members have worked for the Moosewood restaurant in Ithaca, New York, since it was founded in 1973. In 2022, Danica Wilcox heard from her mother (who is part of the Collective) that several senior members were looking to pass the torch. Wilcox, who grew up in the Moosewood kitchen, and her husband Nicholas took over ownership, lest the institution shut down for good. For nearly 50 years, Moosewood cookbooks have served as a global guide to vegetable-forward eating, introducing generations to vegetarian gastronomy. With six titles and over 5 million cookbooks sold, Moosewood created a culinary movement that changed how we think about vegetables.
